On 13 Feb, Years 5 and 6 had a visiting astronomer, Dr Matthew Bothwell from Cambridge University. We learnt that his speciality is studying galaxies. He answered every one of our challenging questions, sometimes with “We don’t yet know”. This was so exciting to find out how much about the universe there is still to learn. One of the best facts he told the classes was that black holes are miniscule points with great mass. Gravity from this point pulls everything, even light into itself creating a bubble of darkness around it. We also had questions about the Big Bang clarified, that it was not a tiny bubble of matter that exploded but of energy… but where did that energy come from?
