Assessment

Most of our assessment is formative and is done in an ongoing way, as staff observe and interact with the children throughout the day. Written records are kept by and for the teachers who use their records and observations to plan subsequent lessons and support. Our teachers work hard at analysing gaps in individual’s knowledge and then teaching in order to fill or bridge those gaps.

Summative assessment, for example tests at the end of a unit of work and standardised tests each term or year give us an idea of ability and progress. Standardised tests give us a direct comparison with national averages.

We do not currently participate in National Curriculum tests.
