17 May 2024 | School candidate master Tom today won the school chess championship for the second successive year. He scored 5/5 in the nineteen-player tournament.
In second place was candidate master Luca from Year 4, scoring 4/5. Third equal were candidate master Francesca Year 6 and school grandmaster Diiya 6, both with 3 ½ points. The highest scoring Year 5 was grandmaster Kiran, and Kieran from Year 3 was the top-scorer of his year group with 2 ½/5.
Alan Bright, our school chess coach and who directed the tournament, said:
“Congratulations to Tom on retaining the title. Another highlight was the final game of the tournament to finish where Luca showed great technique to beat grandmaster Max in a tense endgame while being watched in spellbound silence by all the other players”
