On Monday 20th January, a group of children in Years 5 and 6 had the privilege of attending an organ recital at Southwark Cathedral. The organ there dates back to 1897, and has been described as one of the best in London.
We saw the power and range of the 'King of Instruments' on full display: it whispered, and thundered; it roared like a monster and danced like a fairy. At times the music was weird and wonderful, and then gentle and beautiful.
After the concert we met with the organist and had the opportunity to ask questions. One pupil commented:
'The performance was a magical experience. I loved how the organ replicated the other instruments and ricocheted against the walls so beautifully.'
