Our trip to the Old Kent Road Fire Station
By Franie and Sophia
What we did
Some members of the Eco council and school council went to the Old Kent Road Fire Station on Monday 27th November to donate the old coats we had collected for Wrap Up London. Wrap Up London is a charity that every year collects old coats and gives them to the homeless.
How we got there
From school, we walked to the bus stop and Miss Vivyan took a picture of us with our many bags. We had just missed the bus so we had to wait in the freezing cold and we chatted to keep warm. Finally the 21 bus arrived and we stepped on. There were no seats, so we had to stand, but it was very fun as there were only four of us from school who got to go. Then the bus arrived right next to the station so it was only a 30 second walk. We took another photo and went inside.
What happened when we got there
One of the firefighters there showed us to a side room where we dropped off our coats. Then we went back downstairs and they showed us the way to the fireman’s pole. Then to get out of the firestation, they opened the huge front doors that they use to get the fire trucks out of the station for emergencies.
